For lack of funds or my own coffee table, I "borrowed" this one when I moved out of my mom's house. I wish I had a before picture of it, but lets just say after decades of use and abuse, it was quite the eyesore despite being a rather nice solid wood table. A few sheets of sandpaper and tubes of acrylic paint later, I was pimpin' out the living room with this beauty.
Since I absolutely fail at freehanding anything, I actually made this design with a blown-up .jpg spanning 8 sheets of printer paper and assembled into a giant stencil. I use this technique for all sorts of things, and as you can see, it works very well. You can't quite tell from the pictures, but the table is coated in a high gloss finish, which looks nice and has protected the art against spills and cleaning well beyond my expectations.
