Princess Ai

Model: Kat        Photographers: Jenn & Kat        Debuted: Anime Expo 2006

Inspiration: This was the first cosplay I ever made for myself. I was working at an anime store at the time, unpacking prestreet manga, and saw Princess Ai volume 2. I fell in love instantly and decided to make the costume.

Construction:

Wig: "Selena" in platinum blonde from Doctoredlocks.com, but they don't have it anymore.

Headband: Fashion chain from Jo-Ann's (also used in the top), with elastic for the bottom-side half.

Top: AKA the hardest part. Made from black lycra, red Casa satin, and my own pattern. All of the studs, conchos, and buckles in this costume came from Tandy Leather Factory.

Wings: Made from a wire frame wrapped in polyester batting and turkey quills meticulously cut and glued into place. The red tips are airbrushed. They're held on by clear bra straps that criss-cross under the top in front and criss-cross again over the base of the wings in the back.

Arm & belly ties: Fabric straps with studs/eyelets/buckles attached.

Skirt: Simplicity pattern 4580 (style F) with front zipper and lining added.

Belts: Huge strips of satin with unique detail on each. They're all braided together and stitched in place in the front (which was infinitely harder than it looked), and the entire piece comes on and off with velcro down the back.

Boots: From Demonia.
